What this frame delay calculator does
It converts between frames and milliseconds at standard and custom frame rates so you can sync audio to video or plan processor latency.
Formula
ms = frames × (1000 ÷ fps) and frames = ms × fps ÷ 1000.
Worked example
A LED wall adds 3 frames at 59.94 fps: 3 × (1000/59.94) ≈ 50.05 ms of audio delay to match picture.
Tips
- Confirm whether gear quotes delay in frames or milliseconds.
- Use the actual output rate (e.g. 59.94 vs 60), not the camera sensor rate alone.
FAQ
How many milliseconds is one frame at 29.97 fps?
About 33.367 ms (1000 ÷ 29.97). This tool uses exact division for any rate you enter.
What is the difference between 29.97 and 30 fps delay?
29.97 is ~0.1% slower than 30. Over long timelines that accumulates — always match the project rate.
Can I convert frames to timecode?
Yes. The calculator shows a timecode-style readout alongside milliseconds for common broadcast rates.
Why does IMAG feel late?
Camera processing, switcher frames, and LED processors each add delay. Count total frames in the path, then convert to ms for audio delay.
Syncing a show?
Kynetic handles show control, playback, and frame-accurate live production.
